How are donations used?

Donations are the biggest part of our income. We use them to fund our work, carried out by our partners, in Africa. For donations to projects (or otherwise specifically allocated), 100% of what you give goes to the project. For general donations, no less than 90-100% of what you give will go to our work in Africa.

How do you fund the running costs of the charity?

The support and running costs of the charity are funded by Gift Aid and our Charity Shop in Cumbernauld. To facilitate this, Gift Aid on all donations are applied to the charity’s general funds. We strive to keep our costs as low as possible to maximise what we are able to send to our partners. Much of our work relies on the skill and dedication of our volunteers, without whom our partners could not reach as many people as they are currently able to.

How Can I Give?

Sponsorship signup and donation via the website is our preferred method of receiving donations. If you prefer not to give online, you can send us a cheque. When sending a cheque, please include the following information:

• Your full name and contact details, including address, phone number and email address (if you have one).
• What you would like us to use the donation for (general doantions will be used where need is greatest – please indicate if your donation is given for a specific purpose).
• Whether you are affiliated with a church
• Whether you would like to be kept informed about our work
• Whether your donation is eligible for Gift Aid (see the declaration below and sign your letter to confirm this)

How do I set up a regular donation?

Regular donations (Sponsorship and FoundationMakers) are processed using recurring debit/credit card transactions (PayPal) or Direct Debit (GoCardless).

How do I make a one-off payment?

One-off payments are processed using debit/credit card transactions via PayPal or one-off Direct Debit transactions via GoCardless.

What if I don’t have a PayPal account?

You don’t need to have a PayPal account to donate to us via PayPal. You can simply enter your card details and PayPal will process these as normal.

Isn’t Direct Debit for regular, recurring payments?

Direct Debit is our preferred method for receiving regular donations. However, Direct Debits can also be used for collecting one-off payments. In this way it acts in much the same manner as a bank transfer. You are required to agree to a Direct Debit mandate, however this is valid only for your single donation and automatically cancels when the donation has been processed by your bank.

Can’t I just make a bank transfer?

Giving via the website is our preferred method of receiving donations. It ensures that we can identify your gift and allocate it correctly. It is also the most efficient way for us to claim Gift Aid on your donations, maximising the income to the charity.
